|
| | New Book by Rory McEntee
The Sacred/Secular Binary: Challenging the Divide in University Culture and Democratic Societies is the result of a long gestation based on Rory’s doctoral work in theology and philosophy, arguing against a rigid sacred/secular binary in society, and for contemplative spaces and dialogue as essential to the health of our pluralistic democracy. With help from a diverse array of thinkers, including Howard Thurman, Gloria Anzaldúa, Walt Whitman, and Martin Luther King Jr., Rory also develops the idea of a “contemplative democracy.” That is, democracy itself as a potentially transformative religio-spiritual tradition in its own right, with its own modes of spiritual practice and trenchant need for contemplative dialogue across diverse perspectives.

| | | The Keating-Schachter Center“Shared Sacred Story of Humanity”
An Event at Naropa Univeristy with Rory McEntee, Netanel Miles-Yépez, Anantanand Rambachan & Judith Simmer-Brown
Join us in Boulder or remotely for the launch of the Fetzer Institute’s “Shared Sacred Story” project, a visionary initiative inviting the human family to come together under a common story—one that celebrates our shared humanity and connection across differences. As part of this global effort, nine teams of scholar-practitioners have crafted stories from their religious traditions—Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and more—as gifts to the world, contributing to a collective sacred story of humanity.
The Boulder launch will feature the leaders of the Interspiritual, Hindu, and Buddhist teams in a dialogue of collaborative narratives that highlights the power of storytelling as a path toward pluralism, understanding, and unity. We hope you will join us for this revolutionary event!
October 17, 6:00-8:00 PM, Nalanda Events Center Nalanda Campus, Naropa University 6287 Arapahoe Avenue

| | | Charis Community Work Week
In September, a group of Naropa students came down to Charis Mandala for teachings and a work week. We stained decks, cleaned meditation cushions, dusted window wells, repaired wallpaper, and more. Rory gave talks on the “Dark Nights,” different types of spiritual teachers, and archetypes of spiritual development. We shared meals, game nights, and even a Shabbat celebration! And, of course, we took in the sacred beauty of the land. We are so grateful to these young contemplatives for their work, and even more for their commitment to a spiritual path and their hunger for authentic guidance and teachings. What a joy to spend time in spiritual community together! |

| | | | | Stages of the Path Retreat
In July, we held our “Stages of the Path” retreat at Charis Mandala, taught by Rory McEntee, Alejandra Warden, and Netanel Miles-Yépez. Together, we shared a daily rhythm of meditation, contemplative practice, teachings and talks, shared meals, and periods of silence. Growing deeper on our individual spiritual paths together in community, we drew from Buddhist, Sufi, Divine Feminine, and Christian teachings. It was a blessing to have such a wonderful group of people coming together. |

| | “I am not only my consciousness or the experience of my being…but I am that out of which my very logos springs, that from which my consciousness emerges. … Every religion has this ultimate and transmystical dimension as the hidden fountain of its further teachings.”
